Description & Responsibilities

SimBioSys is looking for a Clinical Data Abstractor to join our rapidly growing Clinical Trials & Data Science team. In this role, you will work within a diverse team of critical thinkers (scientists, developers, physicians). You will be responsible for reviewing clinical radiology and pathology records, structuring and manipulating data, and helping to ensure that SimBioSys researchers have access to the appropriate data to perform their cutting-edge analyses. This is an ideal position for someone with a scientific or clinical background who is interested in working at the crossroads of healthcare technology and data analysis to solve some of today's most challenging cancer-related questions.

Day to day responsibilities could include the following:

  • Abstracting new path/radiology notes (going from text to structured data)
  • Tumor classification/annotations (location, morphology, etc)
  • Creating clinical trial related materials (ie supporting other teams)
  • Validating clinical data fields
  • MRI quality review
  • Literature review

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Statistics, Biology, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • 0 to 3 years professional experience
  • Experience extracting/abstracting non-structured data
  • Exposure to Python and R programming languages
  • Expertise in office suite software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Professionalism, critical thinking, and attention to detail are a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project goals
  • A desire to develop into a data analyst/data scientist working at the forefront of cancer research

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with relational databases (SQL), Python, and R programming
  • Experience in basic statistical analyses
  • General knowledge of cellular, molecular, or cancer biology
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Knowledge of cancer-related medical terminology, medical abbreviations, and pharmaceutical terms is a plus
