SimBioSys is seeking a Back-End Software Engineer to contribute to the back-end aspects of TumorScope, an application to assist physicians in the treatment of cancer patients. In the role you will be responsible for maintaining and developing features in the back-end implemented in Python, including providing a robust REST API to serve data to the frontend, as well as for internal tooling. You will work closely with front-end developers on the public presentaiton of data, and will work with SimBioSys scientitsts to develop applications and workflows to manage scientific data.

SimBioSys is on a mission to improve patient experience through computational simulations. By virtualizing cancer, clinicians and patients are empowered with a better understanding of the disease and can assess all available options computationally to truly individualize treatment. We employ a combination of biophysical modeling and artificial intelligence to enable precision medicine in Oncology. Our portfolio of software applications enable individualized cancer care, drug development, clinical trial optimization and comprehensive biomarker development.

What you'll do

  • Develop and enhance the REST API for Tumorscope
  • Design database systems to meet our growing data needs
  • Utilize AWS to effectively and reliably deploy the application
  • Interact with scientists and physicians to create user stories
  • Assess performance, stability, and effectiveness of the application
  • Work with staff to build internal tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related degree, or three years experience in working with Python in a production environment
  • Experience with databases, both relational and NoSQL
  • Proficient with a Python web framework like Flask, Django, Bottle, etc.
  • Proficient in cloud-based development (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in building and running Python applications with Docker
  • Experience with DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code (such as Terraform)
  • Experience with other clouds (e.g., GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with Design-Build-Test software development processes
  • Experience with the Python package deployment process
  • Experience with medical imaging
  • Strong Unix skills
